Our digital offerings are changing!
After careful consideration, Allen Park Public Library will be discontinuing the Hoopla streaming service as of June 30, 2026. This was not an easy decision to make and we have been weighing our options for some time. This change reflects a broader trend where libraries across the country are re-evaluating their Hoopla subscriptions.
Why is Allen Park Library phasing out Hoopla?
Although Hoopla has been a very popular service for our patrons, the cost per circulation model has restricted not only our allotted monthly budget but also our daily cap for checkouts. This meant that Allen Park Library patrons were denied access as early as 8:00 a.m., resulting in many frustrated users.
Do I have to cancel or delete my account?
For patrons with an active Hoopla account, you may continue to checkout digital materials until June 30, 2026. All materials and accounts will automatically delete meaning no action is needed on the part of the patrons.
The holds lists can be so long on Libby!
Beginning July 1, 2026, we will reallocate the funds previously used for Hoopla to our Libby Advantage plan. Unlike Hoopla’s set title list, Libby allows us to purchase the items our patrons request most.
Allen Park Library patrons also have access to 14 partner library systems and their collections through Libby, which greatly increases the amount of items available for checkout while decreasing the wait time on holds. Instructions for adding Partner Libraries to our Libby App can be found on our website at allenparklibrary.org.
How do I access the Partner Libraries through Libby?

Adding Partner Libraries:
- Click the 3 lines in the center of the menu at the bottom of the screen
- Click Add Library
- Search for a partner name & click on it
- Sign in With My Card
- Choose your home library from the Partner Libraries list
- Enter your library card number
- Enter your PIN
- Click Next
Don’t forget to use Notify Me to tell us about e-books, audiobooks and comics not available in Libby. If the item is purchased, the system will place you on hold!
Concerned about access to your favorite digital formats? We’ve got you covered!

We are extremely hopeful for this new venture with our digital collections and the opportunity to better accommodate patron needs.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we make this transition.
